Ambassador Mederic pledges to strengthen cooperation with Egypt

Ambassador Conrad Mederic presented his Credentials to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi as Seychelles’ third non-resident Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt on Tuesday 4th April 2023 in a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Cairo.

During the ceremony, President Al-Sisi welcomed Ambassador Mederic and wished him success in his post. He also expressed his Government’s keenness to strengthen relations with Seychelles in fields of mutual interests.

On his part, Ambassador Mederic acknowledged the excellent diplomatic relations between Seychelles and Egypt since 15th July 1976, which has allowed collaboration on many issues of bilateral and multilateral interests. He stated that as the new non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles to the Arab Republic of Egypt, he aims to work with the relevant Egyptian authorities to further enhance cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including Climate Change. He remarked on Egypt’s Presidency of COP27 last year describing it as an achievement for the African Continent.

Ambassador Mederic also followed up on ongoing negotiations regarding the three Seychellois prisoners currently incarcerated in Egypt and requested to visit them. While the Egyptian Authorities could not honour his request during that particular visit, it was agreed that a visit could be arranged during his next visit to Egypt.

During his visit, Ambassador Mederic also met with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt where he proposed a Visa Waiver Agreement between the two countries. He had the opportunity to engage with potential candidates for the post of Honorary Consul to Seychelles which will heighten the relations between Seychelles and Egypt.
