Eritrea: International Workers Day 2023 observed

International Workers Day was observed under the theme “Clear Vision-Concerted Work!” featuring various activities.

At the event organized today, 1 May at national level at Baheti Meskerem Square in which Ministers, senior Government and PFDJ officials, members of the Diplomatic Community and head of UN offices as well as a number of workers took part, Mr. Kibreab Kidane, Deputy Secretary General of the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers delivered message of the national confederation.

Mr. Kibreab noted that International Workers Day is a reminder of the struggle of workers for their rights and a driving force for future endeavors, as well as a day in which workers renew their pledge and play a due role in the struggle to ensure their rights individually and through their organization.

Mr. Woldeyesus Elisa, Director General of Labor at the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, on his part indicated that the Government of Eritrea is working by giving priority to improve the socio-economic life of citizens, human resources development as well as to create employment opportunity as well as to narrow the gap between cities and villages.

Mr. Woldeyesus went on to say development programs that are carried out with the strong effort and commitment of workers are the cornerstone for ensuring social justice.

The International Workers Day was observed with various activities including construction of terraces and preparation of holes for planting tree seedlings, blood donation, seminars related with labor and productivity, workshop, as well as general knowledge and literature competitions.

International Workers Day is being observed for the 133rd time at the international level and for the 32nd time at the national level.
