FIFA President Gianni Infantino has said that the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ (https://www.FIFA.com) has transformed the face of women’s football and appealed to broadcasters, governments and member associations to help keep the momentum going towards equality once the tournament ends on Sunday.
Speaking at the opening of the FIFA Women’s Football Convention in Sydney Gadigal, the FIFA President thanked Australia and New Zealand for co-hosting “simply the best and greatest and biggest FIFA Women’s World Cup ever.”
The tournament had showed that standards were rising while, on the financial side, it had generated USD 570 million, allowing it to break even, he said.
Over the course of the last month, the FIFA President has visited other member associations in Oceania, saying the tournament should be celebrated across the whole region. “In all of these visits, where I met the federation presidents and heads of state, women’s football was the top topic, so thank you Oceania for your great contribution to women’s football.”
