North Central Zonal Office in Collaboration with Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Local Government officials on Assessment of Recent Violent Attacks in Benue State

The North Central Zonal Office in collaboration with Benue SEMA and Local Government officials embarked on an assessment of the recent violent attacks in Benue State from 12th April, 2023 to today the 14th of April, 2023.

On arrival, the NEMA team led by Nuruddeen Musa, ACSARO held a strategic meeting with BSEMA and some of the LGA officials . The attack occurred sporadically since March and peaked on the 4th of April, 2023.

According to the secondary data in our disposal, about 36,407 persons were displaced across 12 LGAs, 250 persons were said to have been killed and 799 injured in different attacks.

The first day of the assessment went well without any hinge, but the second day was interrupted with the team on its way to Apa LG after assessing Otukpo LG. The team got a security report of an attack happening in the next village which necessitate their immediate return to Makurdi.

Most of the affected areas are still experiencing the crises and in need of urgent ntervention from the Federal Government. However, assessment and profiling is ongoing in the various Local Governments affected.
