KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube has reaffirmed government’s commitment to achieve long-term energy security and ultimately end load shedding during her address to thousands of congregants at the Methodist Church of Southern Africa’s Coastal District Opening Service in Durban today.
Speaking during the church service Premier Dube-Ncube said: “We want to assure our people during these tough times who are seeking for leadership that addressing the energy crisis remains the apex priority for our government.
We understand the economic impact caused by load shedding and as President Cyril Ramaphosa has stated our government is determined to overcome the crisis in order to end the energy scarcity. The shortage of electricity is a huge constraint on economic growth and job creation,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.
Premier Dube-Ncube delivered a message of support during today’s church service which was themed: “Reimagining Social Holiness, Sustaining Hope and Healing – Remaining in the Love of Christ”.
The Premier called for even stronger working relations between the provincial government and the church; and appealed to the church to continue praying for peace and unity in the province.
“As the Provincial Government of KwaZulu-Natal, we recognise and salute the Methodist Church for their nation-building efforts and community upliftment initiatives, reminding all of us that Christianity and evangelism are ultimately about service to humankind, especially the poor and the vulnerable.
You have always been an important partner in supporting education, fighting social ills and building social cohesion. We salute the church’s focus on children, and health – including the fight against HIV, TB, and Covid-19. We deeply appreciate your role in the fight against the shameful scourge of Gender-Based Violence,” said Premier Dube-Ncube.
Recalling the church’s role during recent economic setbacks, Premier Dube-Ncube thanked the Methodist Church and the entire faith-based community for helping our province and citizens during Covid-19 and the deadly and devastating floods.
“We will continue to partner with you as we jointly work to rebuild our economy and strengthen the moral fibre of the province. My key message today is that sometimes our difficulties are less about the enemy being against us and more about God wanting to show us what it is that God looks like in our lives.
Sometimes its about God finally wanting us as His children to be circumspect and sensitive enough to understand God’s power in our lives. Today’s theme for the church service reminds us that we must be steadfast, we must abide and listen to the will of God in our lives,” concluded Premier Dube-Ncube.
The Premier attended the church service with MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Siboniso Duma, MEC for Health Nomagugu Simelane, eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda, Members of the Provincial Legislature and Members of the eThekwini Executive Committee.
