South Africa: Deputy Minister Mashego-Dlamini to participate in the High-Level Segment of the United Nations Human Rights Council

The Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ms Candith Mashego-Dlamini, will participate in the High-Level Segment of the 52nd Session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, from 28 February to 2 March 2023.

The HRC is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. At the core of its mandate is the responsibility to work with governments to promote and protect human rights and to ensure that these rights are realised and enjoyed by all people across the world without discrimination. South Africa has recently been elected back to the HRC for the period of 2023-2025.

Deputy Minister Mashego-Dlamini will deliver South Africa’s statements at the High-Level Segments and will also participate in various panels including the Annual High-Level Panel on Human Rights Mainstreaming under the theme: “A reflection on Five Years of the United Nations Youth Strategy.”

During her visit to Geneva, the Deputy Minister will also hold bilateral engagements with Government Ministers and Heads of International Organisations. The Human Rights Council is made up of 47 UN Member States.
